John Ellis | Tree63
Hanlé talks to John Ellis from Tree63, formed in Durban in 1997, Tree63, the popular South African rock band, has sold over half a million albums worldwide. The band's original lineup included John Ellis (lead vocals, guitar), Darryl Swart (drums), and Daniel Ornellas (bass guitar). They gained global acclaim with hits like “Treasure,” “A Million Lights,” and their chart-topping rendition of "Blessed Be Your Name." These tracks became fan favourites and earned the band significant airplay, particularly in South Africa, where they were featured on major radio stations like 5FM with Barney Simon. John Ellis took a break after extensive touring, becoming an English lecturer in Durban. However, the pull of music never faded, and Ellis reformed Tree63 with blessings from the original members with Angus Warden (Drums) and Deon Knipe (Bass).
